Just wanted to put up another post of something I feel better about, as far as combining media. I have been working on and off with this Frida and Diego piece and am much more pleased with where I stop and start with it.
I am using photos, painting, tissue and clay pieces, along with the shrinky dink material I was into during October. In progress- but unlike the piece of my Dad- when I am away from this one- I return and am pleased to look at many parts of it.

I can't believe I have missed a whole bunch of your blog postings. I had inadvertently bookmarked an old page, so that was what kept coming up when I checked. The last I'd seen before tonight was in October! When you talked about it tonight, I decided I must be doing something wrong. So, I'm glad I checked and now have some back reading to do.

It seems to me I can remember when you took some students to the Frida Kahlo exhibit. Wasn't it at Reed College? Did that have a big influence on you or were you interested in her work prior to that visit? It would be great if it had some remaining effect on those students who got to see her work.
I adore Frida Kahlo, rereading her biography for the third time, just watched a documentary about her last week.
This is FABULOUS, not JUST because I adore Frida, but compositionally and how you did it. I enjoyed seeing it very much. I have only seen one painting of hers in the real and it just bowled me over. To see a whole exhibit of her work, I think I would have to hang a drool cup around me neck lol!
joan and jafabrit - thanks for the comments--and actually it was when we went to mexico and went to casa azul that i had an epipahany about her-i came back and painted a mural on our living room wall-took about a week- i was really affected by visiting there and learning about her and diego-
as for the kids-- it was jacob lawrence at reed-but still very cool

What I liked so much about Frids is that she was true to herself artistically and did what she wanted with no apology. I like that attitude very much, as well as her joie de vivre and not giving in to the anguish that came as a consequence of her accident.
Okay I am going to admit this, I am so envious you went to casa azul, how cool!
